Prissy Polly's BBQ Restaurant and Catering formed over 20 years ago to satisfy the cravings of those in the Kernersville, NC area who were seeking the Eastern Style BBQ that could not be found anywhere else. Not only a restaurant, Prissy Polly's is also well-known for its top notch catering services.

From a Humble Beginning to a now Famous Destination

Prissy Polly’s was founded by Loran Whaley in July of 1991, within the heart of the Triad.  Prissy Polly’s quickly became a family business made famous by the abundance of both Eastern and Lexington Style BBQ.

Flashback to July of 1991 in Kernersville, NC when Loran Whaley opened Prissy Polly’s BBQ and Catering serving only Eastern style BBQ in the heart of the Triad that is normally dominated by the Lexington Style.  The restaurant quickly became a sensation for the difference in taste and the fantastic service.

As we flash forward to 2013, both Lexington and Eastern Style BBQ are now offered and Greg and Deborah now run the business with Greg’s brother Gary.  Catering has been incorporated into this family tradition and they now cater large events such as weddings and corporate events with a style and grace that can only be classified as “Southern Charm”

Our Staff

The staff of Prissy Polly's BBQ Restaurant in Kernersville include Loran Whaley, his two sons Greg and Gary, and Greg's wife Deborah.

Loran has worked in food service all his life. He was the Manager of the Jefferson Pilot Country Club before he decided to open his own restaurant in the heart of Lexington Style BBQ Country.

Greg and Deborah both joined Loran after receiving formal cooking and food service management training at Johnson and Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island and gaining some job experience of their own. Both received Associate Degrees in culinary arts, and Bachelor's Degrees in food service management.

After graduation, Greg applied his newly acquired skills at Casa Lupita, a full-service Mexican restaurant in Warwick, Rhode Island. He later helped open a new Applebee's restaurant in Lynchburg, Virginia, as kitchen manager.

From 1984 to 1991, Deborah gained valuable experience working at one of Johnson and Wales University's catering facilities in Providence. The facility specializes in wedding parties and other special events, so Deborah has a keen sense of what it takes to make the food service a key element of any special catering event that you are hosting.

Gary is a graduate of Winston-Salem State University, with a degree in history. He has gained his knowledge of the restaurant business with good old-fashioned OJT (On the Job Training).
